Singapore Catholic Funeral Services
In Singapore, Catholic Funeral Services generally have two purposes, ensuring funeral rites is being done to the deceased soul and to comfort family members and having them to pray together for the deceased along with relatives, friends and the rest of the church.
We will be coordinating with the various church that is chosen with regards for the time and date for the en-coffining, burial or cremation service. Usually, the church will have night prayer services followed by a final mass day on a funeral day before burial or cremation and asking friends and family to pay their last respect by laying flowers on the casket usually by their family members and friends.
The lid of the casket could be lifted up upon request by the family members during en coffin to place personal belongings into the casket for the deceased.
Catholics believe that the soul will go to three places upon death and they are Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory. Where the soul will end up could only depend on our faith while we are still alive. Souls that ended up in heaven or hell would be their final destination and nothing could be done to change. Purgatory is a cleansing phrase where souls must undergo in order to get to Heaven.
Night prayer services will be conducted by family members, friends, and relatives as they would pray to God to be merciful towards the deceased. Prayers are usually prayers to plead to God and beg for forgiveness towards the sin the deceased has done so that eventually they would enter Heaven after going through purgatory.
In Singapore a pair of white candles could be seen in a Catholic Funeral Service in Singapore, candles are call easter candles and the purpose is to represent the light of the resurrected Christ. Lights symbolize that Christ has conquered between sin and death. Candles being placed at the altar table infant of the casket will remind everyone that Christ had once won over death, sin, and darkness.
A bottle of holy water will be placed at the altar table and the holy water is being used for the baptizing ceremony in Singapore, using the same element to sprinkle over the deceased. This is to remind everyone of the grace and hope that we have in Christ Jesus
Catholic Mass happens on the final day of the funeral, before heading towards to crematorium or cemetery. Pall will be placed on top of the casket, the holy bible will be on top of the coffin and the crucifix will be placed on top of The Coffin lastly.
For family members who don’t have a Priest or Funeral Minister to conduct the funeral, do let us know and we will try our best to engage volunteer services of the churches. We have our own in-house Catholic Funeral Minister and he strongly believes in helping people in the right way.

Vigil
This service is usually held only during the funeral wake during the last evening of the wake for everyone to gather together, remembering the deceased, thinking back of all the memories, and help by praying for the deceased soul. During the event of Vigil Service songs are not appropriate for Mass and deceased favorite songs are being played.
Funeral Liturgy
Usually celebrated during the Funeral Mass or Requiem Mass, liturgy could be celebrated at its own timing when Mass is not able to the office for example during public holidays, Good Friday, Holy Week and so on. There are three very important rites for the deceased and is to give thanks and praise God for Christ’s conquering of death and his promise to every one of external life, for commending the deceased soul and hand over to God’s care, and to gain strength for proclaiming the passion, death, resurrection, and coming of Christ.
The Committal
Usually, this will take place at the crematorium or cemetery where the body will be committed to rest and carries hope that the soul will rise again during the resurrection. Everyone will gather around to offer their final prayers to the deceased for the final time. This final farewell will definitely give closure to this funeral.
