Even though safety measurements have been put in the funeral wake to ensure the safe handling of the deceased infected with Covid-19, and physical contact with their bodies is not permissible, we strongly recommend a three-day funeral wake to be conducted to minimize any potential risk of transmission between visitors during the funeral wake.

The holding period in the hospital in normally 2 hours, we are able to extend the holding time of the deceased.

• Attendees at wake and funeral including foot procession will have a limitation of 30 pax
• Cremation or burial will have a limitation of 30 pax
• Religious workers and funeral staff involved in the funeral shall be kept to a minimum.
• Buffet setups in the funeral wakes are not allowed at the moment
• Live instrumental music (Non-Wind) are allowed at the funeral wakes

You may conduct a funeral between three to five days complying with the mandatory social distancing guidelines provided by NEA.

We strongly recommend to cremate the bodies of the deceased and transport the ashes back to Singapore or their home countries. There will be no special permit required for the repatriation of cremated ashes, to repatriate the body of a deceased back to their home country, the next-of-kin will have to either seek the assistance of a funeral director or their Embassy to make the mandatory arrangements. Approval will be need from both their home country and NEA’s Port Health Office is required for importing or transporting. If the body were to transport back to their home country, the next-of-kin will have to ensure that the body of the deceased is double-bagged, sealed in a leak-poof coffin, and embalmed for preservation for transportation.
