Direct Cremation in Singapore.

A simple, dignified cremation without a formal service. For families who prefer a quieter farewell, who want to hold a memorial separately, or whose loved one wished for something straightforward. Transparent pricing, no upsells.

A respectful cremation, without the formal service.

A direct cremation is the simplest form of funeral arrangement. The deceased is respectfully collected, prepared, and cremated without a formal wake, religious ceremony, or procession. Ashes are returned to the family afterwards, who may scatter, inter, or hold a private memorial service at a time of their own choosing.

At 1-Funeral Group, we handle direct cremations the same way we handle any other service: with care, dignity, and full transparency about what is included and what is not. There is no upselling, no pressure to upgrade, and no hidden fees.

When families choose direct cremation

Direct cremation is the right choice for many situations:

  • The deceased left instructions for a simple, no-fuss cremation
  • The family prefers to hold a private memorial gathering later, when overseas relatives can travel or when the family is ready
  • Time, cost, or emotional energy is limited
  • The family is small, geographically dispersed, or has complicated dynamics
  • A traditional ceremony does not fit the family’s beliefs or their relationship with the deceased

There is no wrong reason. Many families find that direct cremation, followed by a meaningful memorial held when ready, gives them the space to grieve in their own time.

What's included

Our direct cremation package covers everything needed for a respectful, straightforward cremation:

  • Collection of the deceased from the hospital, home, or hospice (any hour, any day)
  • Hygienic preparation and dressing of the deceased
  • Simple cremation casket
  • Death certificate processing and all related paperwork
  • Cremation permit application
  • Cremation booking at Mandai or another approved crematorium
  • Transport of the deceased to the crematorium
  • Standard cremation
  • Ash collection from the crematorium
  • Simple urn for ash storage

What's not included

Direct cremation is intentionally minimal. The following are not part of the package, and we want to be upfront about that:

  • No wake or viewing at a venue
  • No religious ceremony, no monk, priest, pastor, or celebrant
  • No floral arrangements or photo display
  • No funeral procession with mourners
  • No eulogies, music, programmes, or sound system
  • No embalming, only hygienic preparation

If you would like any of these elements, talk to us. We will either recommend an optional add-on, or guide you toward one of our other service packages that fits your wishes better.

Optional add-ons

Many families combine direct cremation with one or two optional elements without committing to a full funeral service:

  • Brief family viewing before cremation. A short window for immediate family to say goodbye at the crematorium, typically fifteen to thirty minutes
  • Premium urn. A choice of urns in different materials, finishes, and styles
  • Memorial service held later. A separate gathering, religious or secular, arranged at a date of your choosing, with full venue setup, flowers, and order of service
  • Ash interment or scattering. Coordination of inurnment at a columbarium, scattering at sea, or scattering at the Garden of Peace
  • Live streaming or recording. A brief broadcast of the crematorium farewell for overseas family who cannot attend

All add-ons are quoted transparently. None are required.

How it works

Direct cremation is typically completed within one to three days of the deceased's passing.

Day 1

Collection and preparation.

We collect the deceased from the hospital, home, or hospice at any hour, day or night. The deceased is taken to our care facility for hygienic preparation and dressing, then placed in a simple cremation casket. We begin the paperwork immediately.

Day 2

Cremation.

Once the cremation permit is issued and the crematorium slot is confirmed, we transport the deceased to Mandai or another approved crematorium. Immediate family may attend a brief farewell beforehand if they wish, though many families choose not to.

Day 3

Ash collection.

Ashes are collected from the crematorium the following day and returned to the family. We assist with interment, scattering, or storage as you prefer.

Most direct cremations are complete within seventy-two hours, though this may extend depending on cremation slot availability and family preferences.

FAQ

How quickly can you respond if we call right now?

We answer the line 24 hours a day, every day of the year. A funeral director will be with your family within the hour, anywhere in Singapore.

No. Many families choose not to attend, which is one of the reasons direct cremation can feel like a relief during a difficult time. The cremation is conducted respectfully without anyone present. If immediate family would like a brief moment to say goodbye, that can be arranged at the crematorium beforehand.

Yes. We can arrange a short private viewing at the crematorium before the cremation, typically fifteen to thirty minutes for immediate family. This is the most common add-on to a direct cremation package. Tell us if you would like this and we will include it in the schedule.

Of course. Many families choose to hold a memorial service at a later date, sometimes weeks or months after the cremation, when distant family can travel or when the family is ready. We can arrange a full memorial service whenever you choose, with or without religious elements.

The ashes are returned to your family in a simple urn after collection from the crematorium. You can keep them, inter them at a columbarium, scatter them at sea, or scatter them at the Garden of Peace at Choa Chu Kang. We will help you arrange any of these. There is no rush to decide.

A budget funeral service still typically includes a short wake, basic religious or secular elements, a hearse, and a small procession, just at a lower price point than a full service. Direct cremation eliminates the wake and ceremony entirely. The deceased is cremated directly, and any memorial gathering happens separately, if at all. If you want a small, simple farewell but with some ceremony, we can build a budget service package instead. If you want only the cremation itself, direct cremation is the right choice.
